Washington, D.C. — Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement in response to Governor Moore’s Redistricting Advisory Commission voting to recommend a new congressional map for Maryland:

“For months, the bipartisan Governor’s Redistricting Advisory Commission has carefully considered redrawing Maryland’s congressional map. The Commission has engaged Marylanders across the state by listening to public testimony and considering maps submitted by the public. Maryland’s responsible and transparent commission process—which relies heavily on public input—stands in stark contrast to the political power grabs conducted by Republican-led state legislatures in Texas, North Carolina, and Missouri, and to what politicians in Florida are considering. This marks an important first step by Maryland to ensure that our democracy is able to withstand, and ultimately overcome, the unprecedented challenge we are facing from the power grabs conducted in other states by Republicans at the direction of Donald Trump.”
