Washington, D.C. – A MAGA-aligned dark money group is trying to fool Virginia voters with a dishonest mailer that features an unauthorized photo of President Barack Obama and lies about his position on the Virginia referendum. The same group previously sent dishonest and offensive mailers to Black voters, invoking Jim Crow and the KKK to sow confusion in the redistricting referendum campaign—a tactic that received significant backlash across the state. More recently, they have also spread misinformation about Governor Spanberger’s public support for the referendum to confuse voters. More than $3 million in anonymous MAGA money has poured into the “No” campaign’s efforts to mislead voters.

In response, John Bisognano, President of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement:

“The ‘No’ campaign and its allied MAGA-funded dark money groups are so terrified of the voters that they are resorting to desperate, deceptive tactics like this one to spread misinformation and lies. There is no confusion. President Obama endorses voting YES to stop Trump and his MAGA allies from rigging our elections and to protect the rights and voting power of the American people ahead of the midterms.”

Here’s the Truth: President Obama Supports Voting Yes in Virginia.

On March 6th, just before the start of early voting, President Obama released a video announcing his support for voting yes on the Virginia referendum. Virginians for Fair Elections has been running a 30-second ad on television featuring President Obama for the past few weeks.
