Congressional redistricting in the Commonwealth is accomplished through the ordinary legislative process. State legislative lines are drawn by a five-member commission appointed by legislative leaders from both major parties. In 2021, Governor Tom Wolf, elected in 2018 as a fair maps champion, vetoed a gerrymandered congressional plan passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature. Due to the deadlocked legislative process, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court stepped in and adopted a fair congressional map that reflects the state’s population shifts. This fall, the NDRC is seeking to help flip the highly competitive Pennsylvania state House, build power in the state Senate, and protect control of the governorship.
For the 2022 elections in Pennsylvania, we are targeting the following: Governor, State Senate, and State House

How Our Fight Continues
Thanks to the grassroots movement for fair maps, we have maps in place that are far more fair than they would have been if Republicans had been allowed to gerrymander unchecked this past redistricting cycle. But if the last few years have shown us anything, it’s that our fight to protect free and fair elections is far from over. Redistricting has always been part of the larger fight to protect our democracy. The stakes are far too high to stand by the sidelines.
