Eric Holder Calls on Maryland Senate to Bring New Map to a Vote
Washington, D.C. — Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), issued the following statement joining Governor Wes Moore’s call for the Maryland Senate to bring the state’s proposed congressional map to the floor for a vote:
“Make no mistake, Donald Trump and Republicans are doing everything in their power to avoid accountability from the voters by shamelessly gerrymandering as many seats as possible to unfairly rig this year’s midterms. Following Texas, North Carolina, and Missouri, Florida Republicans are plotting a new, even more egregious gerrymander of their state in an attempt to steal up to five additional seats. Governor Moore deserves praise for creating a transparent commission process that used public input to strengthen community representation. Without this new map in place, a vote for Congress in Maryland will be diminished by the actions of Republicans in other states. Maryland didn’t choose this fight, but it is part of a national struggle with state-by-state consequences. True leadership requires action, and Democrats in the Maryland Senate should vote on this map to show their constituents where they stand.”
