Eric Holder Commends Federal Court’s Decision to Uphold Justice Riggs’s Victory in North Carolina Supreme Court Election

May 6, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), issued the following statement in response to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina’s ruling in Griffin v. North Carolina State Board of Elections, which will allow for certification to proceed for Justice Allison Riggs’s re-election to the bench:

“The district court’s ruling reaffirms the truth: Justice Allison Riggs won, and all legally cast ballots must be counted.

“For nearly six months, despite increasing bipartisan opposition, too many Republicans have tried to use the judiciary to sanction a dangerous, un-American effort to steal a free and fair election. Judge Griffin has embarrassed himself and the state of North Carolina enough by dragging out this process. He must end this charade by finally accepting the results and admitting defeat—right now. The will of North Carolinians must prevail.”
