2nd wave of NDRC endorsements brings total 2020 investment in redistricting targets to $2 million
Washington, D.C. — Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, endorsed 102 candidates running for office in Florida, Georgia, Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin – all key states for redistricting. The NDRC is also investing more than $1 million in direct, individual contributions to many of the endorsed candidates’ campaigns to bolster their efforts amid COVID-19 and ahead of November’s elections. This investment includes contributions to caucuses and other support for key races on the ballot.
Today’s announcement builds on last month’s $300,000-plus investment, as well as the National Democratic Redistricting PAC‘s $150,000 investment in February to North Carolina and Texas. To date, the total investment from the NDRC and its affiliates sits at $2 million in 2020. The NDRC is also committed to funding other efforts to engage and educate voters in target states. And ahead of the fall elections, the NDRC intends to make additional rounds of contributions.
“This November will be the most important election of our lives, not just at the presidential level, but also with regard to state legislative races that will shape the next decade of America’s politics,” said Eric H. Holder, Jr. “Because of the failure, chaos, and uncertainty caused by the federal response to the coronavirus, the NDRC is stepping up and making a seven-figure investment to help candidates and campaigns in eleven states adjust to an unprecedented election cycle. Our democracy is being tested like never before, and the candidates that I’ve proudly endorsed deserve every chance to deliver their message to the voters. I look forward to supporting their successful campaigns that will help us take power away from self-interested politicians and return it to the people.”
The full list of endorsed candidates can be found here. All of the endorsed candidates have signed the NDRC’s Fair Districts Pledge which calls for candidates and elected officials to support fair redistricting and commit to end map manipulation.
