Eric Holder Endorses Abigail Spanberger for Governor of Virginia

July 24, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), announced his endorsement of Abigail Spanberger for Governor of Virginia. This endorsement is part of the NDRC’s Democracy Defenders program, a campaign supporting candidates running for state-level offices critical to safeguarding and strengthening democracy.

Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the NDRC, released the following statement endorsing Abigail Spanberger for the Governor of Virginia:

“This election will determine whether Virginia’s next governor will protect rights, promote fairness, and strengthen progress or stand in the way of all three. Abigail Spanberger is a leader who has brought tangible results to Virginia. Throughout her years in Congress, she fought for electoral, labor, and reproductive rights, and worked to advance bipartisan solutions to address Virginians’ most pressing needs. As governor, she’ll protect voting rights, strengthen public schools, lower healthcare costs, and make Virginia more affordable.

“Her opponent, on the other hand, embodies an extreme MAGA agenda, supporting attacks on workers, public schools, and basic freedoms. Instead of standing up for Virginia, she has put Trump and the far-right agenda first. She does not represent the best of Virginia. The choice in this election is remarkably clear.
