Eric Holder Endorses David Jolly for Governor of Florida

Washington, D.C. — Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), announced his endorsement of David Jolly in the 2026 Florida gubernatorial election. This endorsement is part of the NDRC’s Democracy Defenders program, a campaign supporting candidates running for state-level offices critical to safeguarding and strengthening democracy. “For far too long, Florida Republicans have embraced an extreme anti-democracy agenda, including enacting egregious gerrymanders to secure unearned power for themselves. They don’t think they can win unless they cheat. This November, Floridians have the opportunity to turn the page on MAGA Republican minority rule and bring accountability back to the Sunshine State by electing David Jolly to be Governor,” said Eric H. Holder Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC). “David is the responsible, balanced leader Floridians want and deserve. Throughout his career, David has put people over politics, fought for fair representation for all Floridians, and worked to end gerrymandering. If elected, I know David will take that same approach to the Governor’s mansion to implement a pro-democracy agenda that protects the rights of the people, including opening an Office of Civil Rights.  

“On the other hand, his opponent Byron Donalds could not be more different. Byron is a self-centered, divisive extremist who has consistently chosen partisan politics over the people. He not only has built a record of embracing Washington’s anti-democracy agenda by defending Ron DeSantis’ egregious mid-decade gerrymander and applauding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to gut the Voting Rights Act—a decision that allowed politicians to enact egregious racial gerrymanders across the country—he has also embraced an insulting and horrific whitewashing of our nation’s history, going as far as claiming that Black families were better under Jim Crow. He dishonors the very people who sacrificed to make opportunities available to him that they never had. Changing a campaign ad and removing any mention of Trump doesn’t change who you are or what you’ll do if elected.  

“The choice in this election is clear: vote to elect David Jolly—a good, honorable man—to be the next Governor of the Sunshine State. It’s time to make a change in Florida.”
