Eric Holder Endorses Justice Anita Earls for Re-Election to North Carolina Supreme Court
Washington, D.C. – Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), announced his endorsement of Justice Anita Earls for re-election to the North Carolina Supreme Court. This endorsement is part of the NDRC’s Democracy Defenders program, a campaign supporting candidates running for state-level offices critical to safeguarding and strengthening democracy.
Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the NDRC, released the following statement endorsing Justice Anita Earls for re-election to the North Carolina Supreme Court:
“Throughout her distinguished career, Justice Earls has dedicated herself to protecting the constitutional rights of all North Carolinians and serving as a champion of equal justice under the law. For the past seven years, she has served as an independent, impartial, and fair-minded justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court, and her voice remains essential as threats against the rights and freedoms of the people continue to grow.
“Her opponent’s record could not be more different. As a lawmaker, Sarah Stevens voted to make North Carolina one of the most gerrymandered states in the country, backed extreme restrictions on reproductive freedoms, defunded public schools, and stripped powers away from the Governor, weakening North Carolina’s system of checks and balances. She won’t be an independent justice; she’ll be a rubber stamp for rolling back your rights.
“This election is truly consequential. The issues are very clear. The candidates could not be more different. Re-electing Justice Earls is critical to restoring a fair-minded majority on the North Carolina Supreme Court. I urge North Carolinians to support and to vote for Justice Anita Earls.”
