Washington, D.C. – Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement in response to the Arizona gubernatorial election results:

“Tonight’s results send a clear message: Arizonans want to keep a governor who works for them, and are not interested in a path that is driven by Donald Trump and Washington. Arizona Republicans have tried to push an extreme MAGA anti-democracy agenda that aims to restrict access to the ballot box and sow doubt in our elections—but these policies and positions are out of step with Arizonans’ values. When Republicans nominated yet another MAGA election denier for governor, Arizonans responded with a resounding ‘NO’.

“In Governor Katie Hobbs, Arizonans have re-elected a proven leader and a champion for democracy. She will continue to fight to ensure every Arizonan’s voice is heard and to support the working families of the Grand Canyon State. I congratulate Governor Hobbs on her re-election and applaud Arizonans for their resilience and determination that made this victory possible. Tonight we celebrate, but tomorrow the work continues to protect and strengthen representative democracy in the Grand Canyon State.”
