Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement in response to the Pennsylvania special election to fill the vacated seat representing the 163rd House District:

“At a time when democracy must be protected, Pennsylvania voters have made their voices heard and elected a committed public servant who will serve as a strong advocate for all Pennsylvanians in the General Assembly. Heather Boyd will ensure the rights and freedoms of her constituents are protected.

“Pennsylvania Democrats were able to protect their recently gained House majority in this special election because of fair legislative maps. For the previous decade, gerrymandered maps allowed Republicans to maintain an unbreakable, unfair grip on the Pennsylvania General Assembly. These new maps are a win for democracy and the people of Pennsylvania.”
