Eric Holder Statement on Pennsylvania Supreme Court Election Results

November 7, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement in response to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court election results:

“Today, we stopped another Republican attempt to place a MAGA extremist on a state supreme court. This year, from Wisconsin to Pennsylvania, voters have soundly rejected efforts to infect our judicial system with result-oriented ideologues. In doing so, Americans are sending a clear message: our courts must demonstrate independence, uphold the rule of law, and protect the rights of all citizens.

“I’d like to congratulate Judge Dan McCaffery and all Pennsylvanians on this resounding victory. With the stakes so high, there is no such thing as an off-year for our democracy. This win is another demonstration that when the people participate in a fair democratic process, they have the power to protect democracy.”

Background on NDRC involvement in the 2023 Pennsylvania Supreme Court election:

This election was a top priority for Attorney General Holder who endorsed Judge Dan McCaffery leading up to the general election. He helped raise money to ensure the McCaffery campaign had the resources to fight back against national Republican attacks, and he participated in press interviews to help raise a spotlight on the importance of this race and to help get out the vote. In addition to Attorney General Holder’s participation, NDRC and affiliates continuously engaged their grassroots networks to help recruit volunteers and get out the vote leading up to the November election.
