Eric Holder Statement on Virginia Gubernatorial Election Results
November 4, 2025
Washington, D.C. – Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement in response to the Virginia gubernatorial election results:
“By electing Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger as their next Governor, Virginians have sent a strong message: they reject the authoritarian impulses of Donald Trump and Republicans who bend to his will, and they want measured leaders who will protect democracy. I know Governor-elect Spanberger will build on her already distinguished career of public service by working to ensure Virginians’ fundamental rights are secure, their public schools are stronger, and life is more affordable for working families across the Commonwealth.
“I want to congratulate not only Governor-elect Spanberger for her inspiring victory, but also Virginians for demonstrating to people across the country that an engaged citizenry can change the trajectory of our nation.”
