NDRC Announces 2nd Round of 2023 Democracy Defenders
October 2, 2023
Washington, D.C. – Today, the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) announced another round of Democracy Defenders for the upcoming 2023 elections. As part of an aggressive campaign to support candidates running for state-level offices that are essential to protecting and strengthening democracy, the list includes candidate endorsements for the Virginia General Assembly election.
The 2023 election will be the first Virginia General Assembly election on the state’s new legislative maps, which were enacted during the 2021 redistricting cycle. The second round of Democracy Defenders includes candidates for the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates. The full list can be viewed HERE.
“I’m proud to support these great candidates, who will not only protect our democracy, but also pursue policies that are representative of the people of the Commonwealth,” said Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the NDRC. “State legislatures are on the frontlines of safeguarding our democracy and the rights instilled within it. MAGA Republicans have made it clear that they want to roll back fundamental rights, but Virginians have the opportunity to fight back against these efforts at the ballot box. Early voting is underway now, and given the stakes of this election, complacency is not an option.”
