NDRC Announces 2nd Round of 2024 Democracy Defenders

August 8, 2024

Washington, D.C. — Today, the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) announced its second round of endorsements as part of its Democracy Defenders program, a campaign to support candidates running for state-level offices that are essential to protecting and strengthening democracy around the country. This round of endorsements are in support of Democratic candidates running for both chambers of the Pennsylvania General Assembly and the Georgia House of Representatives.

“A central part of the struggle for freedom and democracy is taking place in the states. Across the country, as state governments are becoming increasingly responsible for protecting the fundamental rights of the people, MAGA Republicans in state legislatures have prioritized putting in place anti-democracy agendas,” said Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the NDRC. “In Georgia, they enacted extreme voter suppression laws that target communities of color with despicable precision. In Pennsylvania, where too many Republicans continue to embrace election denialism, they have blocked common sense measures to improve the lives of the state’s citizens, including those related to gun safety. The results of these elections will determine whether more states embrace democracy or dismantle it.

“That’s why I’m proud to support these Democracy Defenders who are dedicated to preserving our hard won democracy and who will protect the fundamental rights of the American people. With so much at stake in this critical year, we must all do our part by electing each and every one of them to office this November,” Holder concluded.
