NDRC Applauds Maryland General Assembly for Putting Redistricting on the Ballot
Washington, D.C. — Today, John Bisognano, President of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), issued the following statement in response to the Maryland General Assembly passing legislation to put a referendum on the ballot this November that would allow Marylanders a chance to weigh in on how congressional maps are drawn in response to Republicans’ ongoing mid-decade gerrymandering:
“The Maryland General Assembly is doing what our democracy demands at this moment by allowing the people to weigh in on redistricting at the ballot box this November. If Marylanders approve this measure—voicing their opposition to the egregious, ongoing Republican gerrymanders—state lawmakers must follow the will of their voters and enact a new map that is responsive to the moment.”
