NDRC Calls on NC Court to Reject Republican Effort to Overturn Election Results
March 21, 2025
Washington, D.C. — Today, Marina Jenkins, Executive Director of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement ahead of oral argument before the North Carolina Court of Appeals on a legal challenge backed by North Carolina Republicans that aims to overturn the results of the 2024 North Carolina Supreme Court election in which Justice Allison Riggs, the Democratic candidate in that race, was re-elected to the bench:
“Multiple recounts have confirmed that Judge Griffin lost this election. It is past time for him to accept the results and let the voters of North Carolina be heard. The North Carolina State Board of Elections and the Wake County Superior Court both found Griffin’s challenges to be baseless. Now it is up to the North Carolina Court of Appeals to reject this brazen attempt to subvert the will of the people. To do otherwise would silence tens of thousands of voters who cast their ballots legally, overturn the results of a free and fair election, and shake the very foundation of democracy in North Carolina.”
Last month, Attorney General Eric Holder, Chairman of the NDRC, published a guest essay in The New York Times warning of these efforts by North Carolina Republicans. The full essay can be read here.
