Washington, D.C. — Today, John Bisognano, President of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), issued the following statement in response to Georgia Republicans rejecting calls to enact a new mid-decade congressional gerrymander during the Georgia General Assembly’s ongoing special session:

“Georgia voters made it abundantly clear to state Republicans that participating in the national efforts to draw Black voters out of a voice in Congress across the country is unacceptable. Republicans may still try to push an even more egregious gerrymander in Georgia in a lame duck session following the election, but the overwhelming opposition coming from the ground up will not stop and cannot be ignored. As more states come under similar pressure to gerrymander their maps on Donald Trump’s behalf, they should follow South Carolina and Georgia in rejecting these immoral tactics, or they will face fierce backlash from their constituents at the ballot box.”
