NDRC Statement on Kansas Republicans Abandoning Efforts to Force a Special Session to Gerrymander
November 4, 2025
Washington, D.C. – As reported by the Associated Press, Kansas Republicans have halted their efforts to circumvent the governor’s veto in order to call a special session on redistricting.
“Kansas is the latest example that public pressure can work to defeat gerrymandering,” said Marina Jenkins, Executive Director of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC). “Kansans overwhelmingly oppose the mid-decade push being driven by the White House to gerrymander Republicans into control of the U.S. House next year, and by raising their voices, they have made Republicans think twice before drawing another extreme gerrymander and fended off a special session on redistricting. This highlights the fact that Republicans do not have to participate in this manufactured gerrymandering crisis; in fact, they can stop this crisis from continuing—as long as they stand up for their own constituents instead of blindly following orders from Washington.”
