NDRC Statement on Legal Challenge Against North Carolina’s Mid-Decade Gerrymander

October 24, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, John Bisognano, President of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), issued the following statement on Williams v. Hall, a legal challenge filed by North Carolina voters in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina against the state’s newly enacted congressional gerrymander:

“Despite overwhelming opposition from their constituents, at the direction of Donald Trump, North Carolina Republicans took an already extreme racial gerrymander even further by splitting apart communities of color that have been kept in the same congressional district for decades. This map is not only immoral but also illegal: it intentionally discriminates against Black voters. The court should quickly block its implementation as the lawsuit moves forward to prevent even more harm from being done to the rights of North Carolinians.”
