NDRC Statement on Texas Senate Passing Trump’s Big Ugly Gerrymander
August 12, 2025
Washington, D.C. — Today, John Bisognano, President of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), issued the following statement in response to the Texas Senate passing Trump’s Big Ugly Gerrymander, which packs and cracks Black and Latino communities, giving them fewer opportunity districts than they currently have:
“In contrast to 2020, when Republicans in Georgia refused to give Donald Trump the 11,780 votes he demanded to overturn an election, right now, Texas Republicans are bending the knee and serving up exactly what Trump ordered. In doing so, they are ignoring the thousands of Texans who have demonstrated overwhelming bipartisan opposition across the Lone Star State against this power grab, and taking our country down a dangerous path to try to insulate themselves and Donald Trump from accountability at the ballot box. Under this new, even worse gerrymander, millions of Texans—especially Texans of color—will have their voices silenced. Make no mistake, if Texas Republicans enact this discriminatory map, they will face swift, significant resistance from the people and in the courts.”
