Maine
In Maine, the redistricting process falls primarily to the legislature, which considers congressional and state legislative districts drawn by a 15-member advisory commission. Following the election of a Democratic governor in 2018 and securing the re-election of Democratic state House majorities in 2020, fair maps were enacted in September 2021 ensuring fair representation for Mainers for the next decade. Maine is once again a Democracy Target this fall because when Democrats compete under fair maps, they can win.

How Our Fight Continues
Thanks to the grassroots movement for fair maps, we have maps in place that are far more fair than they would have been if Republicans had been allowed to gerrymander unchecked this past redistricting cycle. But if the last few years have shown us anything, it’s that our fight to protect free and fair elections is far from over. Redistricting has always been part of the larger fight to protect our democracy. The stakes are far too high to stand by the sidelines.
