Echoing President Biden, Eric Holder Urges the U.S. Senate to Pass Voting Rights Legislation

January 11, 2022

Washington, D.C. — Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, released the following statement in response to President Biden’s speech calling on the United States Senate to pass voting rights legislation:

“President Biden is right – we are at a turning point in America. The Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act must be passed immediately. In his speech in Atlanta today, the President was clear that there is no more room for delay. There is no in-between. This is a time to choose. All of us must decide to be on the side of protecting and restoring American democracy and not tie the nation to an arcane Senate procedure. Every generation is ultimately called on to defend democracy. This is our time. We must commit ourselves to passing comprehensive legislation that strengthens and protects our most basic freedom – our right to vote in free and fair elections.”
