Washington, D.C. – Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement in response to Governor Moore creating a Governor’s Redistricting Advisory Commission to solicit public feedback and make recommendations to the Governor and the Maryland General Assembly to improve Maryland’s congressional map and ensure fairness:  

“At a time when Donald Trump and his Republican allies show no signs of stopping their relentless campaign to undermine elections and manipulate the rules to cling to power, the Governor’s Redistricting Advisory Commission in Maryland exemplifies the kind of leadership our democracy demands. This commission demonstrates a commitment to transparency and accountability by putting power where it belongs—in the hands of the people. It stands in stark contrast to what we’ve seen in Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina, and ensures that Maryland can take critical steps forward to ensure that our democracy can responsibly withstand—and overcome—this national gerrymandering crisis.”
