Eric Holder Statement on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Announcement to Not Seek Re-election to House Leadership

November 17, 2022

Washington, D.C. — Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement in response to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announcement that she will not seek re-election to House leadership:

“Nancy Pelosi will go down in American history as the greatest Speaker of the House of all time. Her strength, leadership and tenacity made this nation better. From the enactment of major legislation that improved the lives of the American people, including the Affordable Care Act, to ensuring Congress fulfilled its constitutional duty in the face of a coup attempt, the Speaker’s  patriotism and dedication to all the American people have been hallmarks of her tenure. All of us owe Nancy Pelosi a debt of gratitude for her service to our country, and it is now up to us to carry forward her legacy of leadership and concern as we confront the challenges ahead.

“On a personal note, the Speaker has been a great friend. She has been a wise confidant and a consistent supporter. She has been there for me in good times and in hours of concern. Without her clear and consistent support, we would not have been able to launch the NDRC nor achieve its many successes. Nancy Pelosi has protected and strengthened our democracy.

“Thank you, Madame Speaker, for your good works and for your friendship. I wish you all the best in your continuing service to our country.”
