Today, the National Democratic Redistricting Committee released the following statement on the new court ruling that the North Carolina legislature must redraw its legislative districts by September 1:

“This ruling is a significant step towards fairer maps that better North Carolinians,” said NDRC Chairman Eric Holder. “Now, the legislature should move forward with a fair and timely effort to protect the rights of North Carolina voters. Courts in North Carolina and across the country have repeatedly rejected illegal racial gerrymandering. It’s time for North Carolina to clean up its act: The rest of the nation will be watching.”
