NDRC Applauds Utah Supreme Court for Rejecting Utah Republicans’ Second Attempt to Use Gerrymandered Congressional Maps In 2026 Midterms

September 16, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, John Bisognano, President of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement in response to the Utah Supreme Court’s decision to reject the Republican-led Utah Legislature’s bid to delay the redrawing of fairer congressional districts and reinstate the state’s gerrymandered congressional map:

“Utah’s judiciary has again rejected the state’s Republican-led Legislature’s efforts to undermine the will of Utahns and the independent redistricting reforms voters passed in 2018. By continuing to carry out its role to protect voters’ rights when they are violated, the court has put Utah on a path towards fairness, with a new congressional map to be drawn this fall and used in the 2026 midterm elections. This should send a strong message to Republican lawmakers in Texas, Missouri, and elsewhere who are following marching orders from Washington to pursue extreme and illegal gerrymanders: you will be stopped.”
