Following a New York appellate court on Thursday ordering the Independent Redistricting Commission to redraw New York’s congressional map, John Bisognano, President of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement: 

“Nationwide, independent commissions, while not infallible, have consistently produced fairer maps than those drawn by politicians. New Yorks’ Independent Redistricting Commission is capable of, and should begin working immediately on, enacting a congressional map responsive to the people of the Empire State. Last year’s map drawing process failed the people of New York, who rightly expected the commission to work—this is an important opportunity for redemption.”
