NDRC Statement on Missouri House Passage of Republicans’ Extreme Gerrymander
September 9, 2025
Washington, D.C. — Today, John Bisognano, President of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement in response to the Missouri House of Representatives passing Republicans’ extreme congressional gerrymander:
“Just three years ago, in response to loud opposition from Missourians, Republicans in the legislature rejected gerrymanders that would have carved up Kansas City. The only thing that has changed today is that Missouri Republicans are shamefully deciding to follow orders from Washington to turn the Show-Me state into one of the most egregiously gerrymandered states in the country instead of standing up for their constituents. Republicans are calling this a ‘Missouri-first’ map, but the truth is that this map puts Missouri voters last by depriving both urban and rural communities of fair and effective congressional representation. This fight is far from over, and Republicans in the Missouri Senate now have a choice. They can reject this gerrymander as Missourians overwhelmingly demand, or they can fold in favor of a partisan power grab and face a fierce electorate at the ballot box and even more lawsuits in court.”
