Washington, D.C. —  Today, John Bisognano, President of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), issued the following statement in response to the Republican-led North Carolina Senate passing an even more extreme mid-decade congressional gerrymander:

“North Carolina Republicans are quickly moving forward with an extreme gerrymander on top of an already extreme gerrymander, because they are terrified of the fact that North Carolinians overwhelmingly oppose this unAmerican attempt to further reduce their voting power. This gerrymander is another shameful abuse of power that targets communities of color with precision. By selling out their constituents to Donald Trump, North Carolina Republicans are guaranteeing they’ll face even more backlash from the voters at the ballot box and fierce legal challenges to protect the voices of North Carolina’s citizens in the halls of Congress.”
