ICYMI: NBC News Poll: Voters Rank Threats to Democracy as Top Issue

August 22, 2022

Washington, D.C. — Voters ranked “threats to democracy” as the top issue facing the country ahead of the 2022 November election, in a new poll released by NBC News

As Republican voters increasingly embrace election deniers in primary elections, the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) is working to ensure voters understand what is at stake in this election with an expanded electoral program to promote pro-democracy candidates up and down the ballot in 17 key states, including gubernatorial, secretary of state, state legislative and relevant local level candidates.

“This poll shows what we have known to be true: voters are deeply concerned about the threats to our democracy. The good news is that every citizen has the power to protect it—by doing democracy, we can save democracy. This fall, every one of us must do our part to participate, from registering people to vote to signing up to serve as a poll worker to supporting pro-democracy candidates up and down the ballot, we can all make a real difference,” said Kelly Burton, President of the NDRC. “Make no mistake, democracy is on the ballot this November and voters have a clear choice. Only one of the two major political parties has filed lawsuits to weaken democracy, passed a historic number of voter suppression bills, and is supporting candidates who have literally attacked our democracy. While the other party, the Democrats, has pushed to ban gerrymandering, expand voting rights, and embraced candidates who believe in free and fair elections. The choice is clear, the stakes are high, and voters clearly understand the real and immediate threats our democracy faces.”
